Taking a Look at the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

For the most part we at least aware of the Occupy movements going on in the big cities, yet what seems to be up for debate is if we really understand what these protesters are asking for.  Hunter S. Thompson, proposed a five-pronged platform that summarizes the most important issues the Occupy movement wish to change.  The first of the five is to break up the monopolies, starting with the repeal of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.  This is unlikely to happen, but how is the same act the protects Colleges and Universities being used by banks.

Director of Student Accounts – Position at Babson College

Babson College is seeking qualified applicants for the Director of Student Accounts position.  The Director is a key participant in the planning and delivery of the College’s student financial services, which includes responsibility for fully integrated SFS business processes and customer service in the areas of student accounts, financial aid, and financing options for undergraduate and graduate student populations.  The primary role is as manager of the student accounts team, with responsibility for financial management, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction with online and person-to-person services.  Babson College is located in Wellesley, Massachusetts, fourteen miles west ofBoston.  Candidates should submit a letter of application and resume online athttp://babson.peopleadmin.com/postings/1590.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all student account business processes, which include: billing and collection of student accounts; handling electronic receipts, cash, and financial aid credits; payment plan, extended payment, and other payment options; student account refunds; notification of Title IV (federal aid) account credits and credit balance refunds; student health insurance enrollment/waivers; third-party billing; and due diligence in collecting on accounts receivable.
  • Serving as primary liaison to senior business office staff and co-developing financial management policies and protocols.
  • Overseeing intra- and inter-departmental relationships as they relate to student account business processes, which include: financial aid (financial aid credits and loan disbursements); admission (deposits); registrar (tuition and fees); campus life (housing and damage billing); academic services (variance and separation processing); and other departments with billed charges (public safety, library, IT).
  • Managing vendor relationships as they relate to student account business processes, which include: Sodexo (meal plan billing); TMS (payment gateway and payment plans); University Health Plans (health insurance billing); bookstore (book vouchers); and collection agencies.
  • Leading the design, development and implementation of the college’s payment options and policies, ensuring responsiveness to student and parent needs and college goals.
  • Key participant in planning, prioritizing, and integrating SFS business processes and services (across the primary functions of student accounts, financial aid, and financing options), administrative support, staff training, and team development.
  • Coordinating and overseeing student account IT systems, records management, data security and privacy.
  • Coordinating and overseeing account reconciliations, audits, and internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state student financial aid, IRS and other regulations that relate to the student account function.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Minimum Level of Education Required                           Bachelor’s Degree
